ASA Will Regulate Your Website Content from March 1st

21st February 2011 :: Author: Andrew Cope, Managing Director, Evergreen

From March 1st, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) will extend it's remit to cover the content of UK websites.

This is good news, in that online advertising and sales material will be better regulated, but it's worthwhile checking that your own website doesn't fall foul of the new rules.

This will cover any "marketing communication" , which means email newsletters or website copy that sets out to sell a service or goods.  It will also cover advertisements that you place on Google, Facebook and other websites.

It won't cover any editorial or blog content, or classified private advertisements.

More information can be found at the ASA website, or the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) website.
