1) The Latest SEO news...

Google have just released another of their algorithms, this time Panda version 4.0. Panda addresses duplicate content on websites and Google's latest update is designed to make websites that have low quality or sparse content appear lower in search results. So what can you do to prevent this new update having a negative impact on your business?

  • Avoid having duplicate content within your website and never copy content from other websites unless you are quoting that website as a source.
  • Write meaningful, rich and unique content for your website. Think about what visitors to your website want to know about. What problems do they have? What solutions can your business provide?

Don't duplicate meta descriptions for your website pages. Make sure that they all have unique title tags.

2) The Latest in Data Protection ...

In September 2013, The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) issued an update to its guidance on direct marketing and since then the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) have been consulting with the ICO to clarify certain areas of confusion or concern.

3) The Latest in Social Media features...

Linked In – One of the most recent features introduced by Linked In is the expansion of the 'Who's Viewed Your Profile' section. You can now see how you rank for profile views among your connections and how this ranking has increased or decreased over the last 15 days. The idea behind the introduction of this new feature is to encourage members to engage more within Linked In and so as part of this feature it highlights tips on how you can improve your rankings e.g. By refreshing your profile summary or joining a specific group.

Twitter – In an attempt to increase traffic to your website and improve conversion rates, Twitter have launched its new Website Card feature, which it says “allows users to easily discover interesting content while giving advertisers the ability to drive a higher volume of URL clicks since users are able to preview an image, related context and a clear call to action in their time line before tapping.” For more details Click Here

Facebook – Over the next few weeks Facebook will be rolling out a 'new and extended privacy tool.' which will enable existing Facebook users to review who they are posting to, which apps they use and how private their profile information remains. New Facebook joiners will find that their posts are set to being sent to 'friends' as opposed to the current default setting which is set to 'public'. Those who post for the first time will also be asked to make a choice as to which audience they want to post to.
